CURRICULA
VITAE

Shrimi
Sinha, Honorary President (India) –Wife of HE the Indian
Ambassador to Greece.
Bridget
Coscoros, President (UK)– Born and brought up in London
I came to Greece 40 years ago and have two grown up children, Alexi, who
lives in New York and Anna-Maria who lives in Kolonaki. I’ve been
a member of WIC since 1979 and over the years have done most jobs: VP,
activities, hospitality, treasurer, newsletter, corresponding sec., nominating
and auditor. I love being a member of WIC – it’s seen me through
thick and sometimes very thin – however, WIC isn’t an “it”
, but a group of very special women and I’m grateful to be part
of that group. Among my interests and activities are Travel with a capital
T, the arts, animals and gardens and the search for ‘balance and
complete mental and spiritual freedom’ (but that’s ‘work
in progress’!). Thank you all for your support. Bridget
Penny
Smith, Vice President (Ireland) – was born and brought
up in East Africa and later Ireland. She attended The Royal College of
Music and Drama in Dublin and Williams College, Massachusetts, USA. Penny
acted professionally in Dublin Theatre including The Abbey and presented
a popular music show on Irish Television. She switched to journalism and
worked on British Vogue as a Fashion Editor. Came to Greece with her husband
Robert who is in shipping. Penny has served on the Executive Board three
times as Programme Officer, Corresponding Secretary and Vice President.
She loves Drama (is leader of the Play Reading Circle ), reading, bridge
and rallying old cars with her husband around Europe.
Dora
Konsolas, Treasurer (Greece) – Dora was born in Athens
and studied History and Archaeology at the University of Athens. She received
a Master's degree in Classics from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio
and a PhD and a Post-Doctoral degree in Archaeology from the University
of Athens. She worked at the National Archaeological Museum and later
taught Archaeology at the School of Guides of the National Tourist Organization.
Since 1986, when she was elected Professor of the Panteion University,
has taught the subjects of History of Greek Civilization, Heritage Management,
Cultural Policy and Administration, and Culture and Urban Regeneration.
She has written numerous articles in scientific journals and is the author
of several books in Greek and English including: Prehistoric Thebes (1981),
Early Helladic Architecture and Urbanization (1986), International Protection
of World Heritage (1995), Cultural Development and Policy (2006), etc.
She is married to Nicholas, a Professor of Economics, and they have a
son and a baby granddaughter. Dora has been a member of the WIC Choir
since its very beginning and has thoroughly enjoyed it.
Denise
Nairn, Recording Secretary (UK) – I was born in Egypt and
stayed until 5 years of age. My father was then posted to UK where I was
convent educated. I worked for BA for 12 years. I have lived in Holland,
Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and Greece since marriage. We have one son who
was educated in UK. He now lives and works in Greece. I enjoy, reading,
playing bridge, learning to play golf. This will be my third time on the
WIC board.
Heike
Mayer, Membership Officer (Germany) – I was born in Hamburg,
Germany and came to Greece in 1963 where I met my Austrian husband, `Fredy´,
Friedrich-Alfred Mayer. Our daughter Kristiane was born here in 1968.
Until 1995 I was working in a Swiss owned company as assistant to the
owners after which time I retired. Beginning in the eighties, for about
10 years, I was helping my husband organize the programme events for the
Austrian Club here in Athens. Later on I spent a lot of time in different
voluntary services. Since the year 2000 I am the Treasurer of the German
Protestant Church. In this position I was responsible for the financial
sector regarding the restoration of the old people’s home called
´House Koroneos` in Ambelokipi, which has recently started to operate.
Being a member of WIC since 1999, I thought it is now time to do some
work for our Club and with pleasure will act next year as Membership Officer.
Helen
Margaronis, Programme Officer (USA) – Helen was taken to
the United States when she was one year old from Athens. She studied for
her BA and MA in the United States and at the Institute de Francaise in
the south of France. She was a travel tour leader for several years. Helen

for several years with law offices in Athens. She is now married with
two children and lives in the center of Athens.
Leopoldine
von Ingelheim-Theophanopoulos, Hospitality Officer (Germany)
– Leopoldine is German and, though she grew up in a Bavarian castle,
was always interested in foreign countries and cultures. Therefore she
studied languages and history of art. Her dream came true when she met
her Greek husband who was on his first posting as a diplomat in Munich.
They went together to Sao Paulo, Brazil, back to Germany and then to Greece.
Her husband then served as Greek Ambassador to South Africa, just during
Nelson Mandela's presidency, which they enjoyed tremendously. But equally
fascinating was their next posting, China, where she fell in love with
the Chinese culture. There she started to collect contemporary Chinese
art and antiques. Leopoldine also likes archaeology and excursions, to
play bridge, solve sudokus, go to the cinema with her family and to meet
friends from different cultures. She has two daughters, who study architecture
and communications, and one son who still goes to school.

the United States, where she received her degree in English and Theatre
studies from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. She devoted
most of her time to philanthropic organizations and her late husband's

English classes to Hmong families from Laos and Cambodia, and the Children's
Theatre Company, also in Minneapolis, which involved fundraising for the
theatre. She was also involved with the College Women's Association of
Japan during her time in Tokyo . Nancy has lived in Greece since l995

and many more fascinating places. At the moment we are planning
to visit Budapest and South Africa. Because of our truly international
membership and the many Lady Ambassadors and Wives of Ambassadors
accredited to Greece we have as members we are able to plan and
execute tours of the highest standard.

EXECUTIVE
BOARD JOB DESCRIPTIONS
In
this age of technology, it is helpful, not to say essential, that
all Board Members should have a mobile phone and at least a FAX
machine and be able to type. To insist on computer literacy and
email facilities would rule out some very valuable potential board
members, but it makes life much easier and communications far quicker
if candidates possess these qualifications and the equipment necessary.
President
– The President represents the Club judicially and extra-judicially
and presides at the meetings of the Club. She approves all programmes
and is an ex-officio member of all committees except the Nominating
Committee. In other words, the President is responsible for the
smooth running of the Club within its aims as set out in Art. 1
of the Constitution as applying to WIC of Athens. The President
co-ordinates and addresses all monthly General Meetings, chairs
the November A.G.M. for the election of officers for the new Board
and also the following January A.G.M. up until the installation
of the new Board. She addresses the Club through the monthly newsletter.
Vice
President – The Vice President shall, in case of absence of
the President, perform the duties of the President and shall attend
all board meetings. She shall maintain the Policy Files, keeping
them up to date with new policies decided by the Executive Board
or changes to fit with current needs. The Vice President keeps the
President’s shield and ensures that it is engraved with her
President’s name, to whom she presents it when the Board’s
year finishes. The Vice President also assumes the responsibility
for sending flowers to sick or bereaved members. She should make
a point of making new members feel welcome at General Meetings and
participate in the New Members’ Coffee Morning.
Treasurer
– The Treasurer shall collect dues, shall open an account
with a bank following a decision of the Board and shall deposit
a reasonable working sum for small expenses with the account. She
shall handle the funds of the Club, withdraw funds from the bank,
issue checks and make all payments. She shall maintain a file of
receipts. She shall keep all the books required by Law or those
requested by the General Assembly.

secretarial or business experience. She must have a thorough knowledge
of written English, have a typewriter or PC and be able to record,
prepare and type the Minutes of Board Meetings. She should make
necessary copies of Minutes for distribution to all Board Meetings,
Agendas with the President’s approval, record notes of the
business part of monthly General Meetings, prepare the Record Book
for signature with names of all paid up members attending extraordinary
meetings and A.G.Ms sign on arrival. She is responsible for having
the necessary translations made and officially stamped and entered
in the Record Book. She must also keep the files of Minutes in order.
Membership Officer – The Membership Officer shall be in charge
of membership and the status of members. She shall prepare an up
to date membership directory of their current members by the end
of February if possible. With the approval of the Board she shall
arrange New Members’ coffee mornings two or three times a
year and shall co-operate with the Treasurer for the collection
of annual dues and fees.
Activities
Officer – The Activities Officer has the overall responsibility
for the Circles. She must ensure that the sign up sheets are kept
up to date and must liaise with the Circle Leaders that all is well
with their groups and make announcements accordingly at the General
Meeting and in the newsletter. She shall follow up new ideas and
suggestions for new Circles and Mini Circles for feasibility and
possible inclusion in future Activities Programmes. She should organise
Special Wednesdays, up to three a month depending on the month and
public holidays. She should have knowledge of and contact with the
Greek (Athenian) scene in order to provide speakers, performers,
outings etc. She approaches ladies from within WIC who will offer
their homes and host these occasions to include where possible an
embassy “Meet My Country”, which has become very popular.
Each month’s activities must be listed and ready to hand to
the Publications Officer at the Board Meeting for inclusion in the
newsletter and to the Corresponding Secretary for the thank you
letters for hostesses and speakers.
Programme
Officer – The Programme Officer is responsible for the programmes
presented at the General Meetings. She decides on the venue in conjunction
with the Hospitality Officer and contacts the speaker confirming
with him or her in writing and preferably again by telephone, establishing
